Caring for your Walk the Storm products

On this page, we provide care guidance from some of the manufacturers of the items we stock. Waterproof, water repellent and water resistant garments can lose their efficacy over time due to the rigours of wearing the product. Please be aware of the care guidance for each item you purchase as it does vary by product and following the guidance will significantly help to extend the life of your item by maintaining it’s beautiful appearance and waterproof, water repellent or water resistance function.

Didriksons – Galon (Polyurethane-coated fabric)

A polyurethane (PU) garment can often be saved from washing by wiping the garment with a damp cloth. When laundry is neceessary, we give the following instructions:

BEFORE WASHING

Close all buttons, zips, buckles and velcro. Remove detachable parts, such as belts, to avoid wear and tear of both the detachable parts and the main garment. Wash the garment inside-out to reduce wear on the outer PU-coating of the fabric. Read the garment’s care instructions, included with the garment, carefully.

DURING WASHING

Wash the garment separately the first time. Use a detergent that is designed for waterproof fabrics. Avoid using fabric softener as this can have a negative impact on the garment’s water resistance and adds to water pollution. Choose delicate washing programmes according to the garment’s care instructions. If hand washing, do not let the garment soak.

AFTER WASHING

Remove the garment from the washing machine immediately after the washing programme has finished. Do not tumble dry or iron the garment. Use of a drying cabinet is only recommended at a temperature up to the recommended washing temperature.

In order to preserve our environment and the clothes, only wash when necessary.

Didriksons – Polyester weave, two-layer garments (Edge, Nomadic)

BEFORE WASHING

Close all buttons, zips, buckles and velcro. Remove detachable parts, such as belts, to avoid wear and tear of both the detachable parts and the main garment. Wash the garment inside-out to reduce wear on the outer fabric. Read the garment’s care instructions, included with the garment, carefully.

DURING WASHING

Wash the garment separately the first time. Use a detergent that is designed for waterproof, breathable fabrics.

As well as maintaining freshness, this minimises the risk of colour run. Wring out the garment if necessary to avoid water streaks on the garment. Avoid tumble drying as this causes unnecessary wear to the garment. To restore the garment’s resistance to water, the garment should be heat-treated after washing. This is done by ironing dry on a low setting. Use of a drying cabinet is only recommended at a temperature up to the recommended washing temperature.

RE-IMPREGNATION

As our garments are impregnated when manufactured, it is usually sufficient to reactivate the impregnation with gentle heat after washing. Depending on how much wear the garment has been exposed to, it is sometimes necessary to re-impregnate the garment to keep it water resistant. We have no impregnation preparations that we recommend over another. Find suitable impregnation preparations in well stocked sports and adventure stores, or online.

In order to preserve our environment and the clothes, only wash when necessary.

Osregn

The polyurethane-covered polyester may be cleaned with a damp sponge. For a more thorough clean, due to the finish on the fabric and the details on the coat, we recommend hand washing gently inside out with a technical washing detergent for waterproof fabrics or a mild detergent, and drying inside out.

Raincombi Overalls

After use

  • Simply brush off remaining water droplets with your hand
  • Hang the RAINCOMBI up to dry in a well-ventilated room
  • Alternatively you can dry it quickly using a hand towel.

Cleaning

  • Wash by hand or on a delicates cycle, using mild detergent.
  • To remove stubborn stains machine wash from time to time at 40┬░C using standard detergent without fabric conditioner.

Drying and ironing

Suitable for tumble drying (lowest setting). Alternatively iron the outside of the garment at a low temperature, taking care to avoid all plastic elements (cord toggles, zips, reflector strips etc.). This heat treatment reactivates the impregnation (water repellent properties of the outside).
